If you’ve ever booked a medical appointment over the phone, you know it can be a lengthy process that involves a little (or a lot) of hold time. ZocDoc’s goal is to make the process easier for you, so you hopefully don’t spend much time on hold these days. Here in Operations, though, calling doctors’ offices is a big part of our day-to-day. We’re constantly training new ZocDoc practices, responding to questions or requests for help, and calling to verify that the information you see on doctors’ profiles is 100 percent up-to-date and reliable.
When you call a lot of doctors’ offices, you’re bound to hang out on hold from time to time. But the upside to a little hold time? Rocking out to sweet music.
Sure, most doctors’ offices employ your typical generic jazzy elevator tunes interspersed with promises that “your call is important” and entreaties to “please stay on the line.” Ah, the endless muzak loop: it’s where health care and customer service meet up on the dark side. (I like to think ZocDoc is where the best of both worlds collide.)
Every once in a while, though, you’re placed on hold and something magical happens: your ears are filled with that song you loved to run to last fall, or the song that was stuck in your head for the entirety of summer 1999, or that one song you heard in every Argentinian cafe when you studied abroad in college. These are the songs that make an Operations Associate’s day. We call them our Hold Music Top Hits.
For your listening pleasure, here’s a small sample of the shared playlist we’ve compiled over the years. The only rule for adding a song to the list? It must have been heard while on hold with a ZocDoc doctor’s office. Listen, and enjoy. You’re welcome.
